Over the past week, devastating fires have erupted across the state of California. In Southern California, the Woolsey Fire has caused shocking destruction of life and property in the mountains and canyons of Malibu. In just a few days it has burned over 93,000 acres and decimated 83% of the National Park Service land in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area.
Phonexa is located just 30 miles from these fires, but its impact has been closely felt as we see residents displaced, livelihoods ruined, and tireless firefighters and emergency personnel working around the clock to contain the blaze and keep people safe.
At Phonexa, we put tremendous value in our community and wanted to do what we could to help those in need. This began with a monetary donation to the Red Cross, which is using professionals and volunteers to provide shelter, food, and comfort to all those affected by these fires.
We were also eager to provide any kind of immediate assistance we could to those currently displaced by this disaster. We held a supplies drive to collect essentials like shampoo, body wash, and toothbrushes & toothpaste and delivered them to the Thousand Oaks Red Cross evacuation center. Packing up and delivering the bags of supplies was a needed reminder that even when forces beyond our control disrupt people’s lives, there is still something that we can all do.
