One familiar truth about people is that even as innovation and technology surge forward, we will always have a soft spot for the festive traditions of the holiday season. And even in the most advanced workplaces, it’s undeniably fun to partake in the simple joys of Christmastime.
Take, for example, the astronauts of Gemini 6 who were floating in Earth’s orbit on a mission ten days before Christmas in 1965. In one of their transmissions to Mission Control, astronauts Wally Schirra Jr. and Thomas P. Stafford reported seeing a an object in a “polar orbit” that resembled “a command module with eight smaller modules in front” with a pilot that was “wearing a red suit.” As the perplexed ground crew listened further, Schirra played “Jingle Bells” on a harmonica while Stafford accompanied with miniature sleigh bells. The ground crew at the festive funny business and Schirra earned the honor of being the first person to perform with a musical instrument in space.
Similarly, in the forward-looking Phonexa office we have been having plenty of our own yuletide fun. Cheerful decorations have gone up in our lobby and around the office. We celebrated a rollicking holiday party earlier this month as a reward for all the hard work this year and a celebration of the company’s success. There was live music, plenty of food, and more than enough holiday “spirits” to go around.
This week we also held our annual “White Elephant” gift swap – one of our favorite seasonal traditions that is high on holiday cheer and competitive fervor. Getting the company together for these fun activities lets everyone relax while highlighting the close bonds we have.
This time of year allows us to reflect on all the good from the previous year and enthusiastically look ahead to 2019. We wish everyone we’ve met and worked with over the year a wonderful holiday, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
Don’t forget to connect with Phonexa on Facebook and LinkedIn for new content and company updates.
