Come lunchtime last Friday, our office swooned over the variety of foods available. To start we had delicious Middle Eastern-style Fattoush salad and vibrant Armenian beet salad. Sides included loaded elote and Cilantro lime rice care of Mexico, as well as heartier fare like Italian-style garlic mashed potatoes and U.K. “favourite” Shepherd’s Pie. Eggrolls, cornbread, and bratwursts were also served up.
Of course, this was all in addition to an already-impressive “classic” Thanksgiving spread of turkey, ham, and stuffing (two trays worth!). Topping the meal off was an equally mouth-watering dessert assortment that included pumpkin pie, crumbly cherry cake, fluffy napoleon pastries, and some decadently creamy cloud cake.
The smorgasbord of dishes that were enjoyed around our dining room table (aka our converted conference room desk) showcased the variety of backgrounds and cultures that come together to work at Phonexa.
The act of eagerly dining on such a variety of foods seemed to somewhat encapsulate President Jimmy Carter’s message about American diversity prior to his election in 1976—
“We have become not a melting pot, but a beautiful mosaic. Different people; different beliefs; different yearnings; different hopes; different dreams.”
Looking ahead to Thanksgiving Day, it is nice to take a moment to show gratitude for all that we have in our lives and all that this country—with its many differences yet common purpose—has afforded us.
Happy Thanksgiving from Phonexa!
