Phonexa reaffirmed its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community by sponsoring Paralympic athlete Smbat Karapetyan in the 2023 Los Angeles Marathon.
The 2023 Los Angeles Marathon took place on Sunday, March 19, as wheelchair participants kicked off the event at Dodger Stadium at 6:30 a.m., with elite runners and the general public following shortly after. Karapetyan placed ninth among wheelchair participants with a recorded time of 2:40:26.39.
Athletes who participated in the Los Angeles Marathon also supported The McCourt Foundation’s mission to find a cure for neurological diseases.
Karapetyan, a representative of the National Paralympic Committee of Armenia, is a multi-faceted athlete who has participated in countless marathons and sporting events including para-athletics, wheelchair basketball, and para-hockey. A 29-year-old veteran of the Armenian army, Karapetyan lost both of his legs in 2012 when he stepped on a land mine while serving in the military of the Republic of Artsakh at Agdam.
This year marked Karapetyan’s debut at the L.A. Marathon. In addition to his participation in the 2023 Los Angeles Marathon, Karapetyan competed in the 2022 Paralympic Summer Games, winning two silver medals for wheelchair racing. He’ll also represent Armenia at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.
Despite the challenges, Karapetyan has built himself to become a decorated athlete. He’s an active member of the Armenian Association for People With Disabilities, representing his home nation in various regional and international competitions.
Phonexa proudly sponsored Karapetyan in the 2023 Los Angeles Marathon as part of the company’s community outreach initiative, Phonexa Cares.
Phonexa Cares extends the company’s ongoing effort to support selfless heroes. Whether it’s in tech or the world beyond, Karapetyan is the epitome of what Phonexa stands for – humility, strength, and perseverance.
